NBA Finals Format

The NBA has been doing the finals playoff format of 2-3-2 for way too long, and it’s time to get back to the 2-2-1-1-1. The NBA instituted this format in 1985 when the Lakers and Celtics played against each other.   This format for several reasons.  The players were one contributing factor.  They disliked the travel from coast-to-coast and the cost the NBA had to pay was astronomical.   To combat these factors, David Stern inserted this format and has never returned to the 2-2-1-1-1.   With the growing increase of popularity in the NBA the league is adopting a “why change what seems to work” attitude.   However many people have a problem with the 2-3-2 format.  This format is unfair for the higher seed since they have to play the first two games at home, then play three straight away games.   This can easily play a big factor into how the series turns out. A return to the 2-2-1-1-1 would address this.  The home team would regain the advantage they have earned throughout the season.
